Charter Hosting Refund Policy

Last Updated: September 12, 2026

1. Purpose and Scope

This Refund Policy explains when refunds, credits, cancellations, and payment adjustments may or may not be available for products and services provided by Michael Moller, an individual, doing business as Charter Hosting ("Charter Hosting," "we," "us," or "our").

This Refund Policy applies to all Charter Hosting customers and is incorporated into the Charter Hosting Terms of Service available at: https://charterhosting.com/tos .

By purchasing or renewing a Charter Hosting Service, you agree to this Refund Policy and the applicable Terms of Service.

Nothing in this Refund Policy limits any refund, cancellation, or consumer right that cannot legally be waived under applicable law.

2. No General Money-Back Guarantee

CHARTER HOSTING DOES NOT OFFER A GENERAL MONEY-BACK GUARANTEE.

Purchase of a hosting plan, server, domain, license, certificate, professional service, or other product does not automatically include a trial period or money-back period unless Charter Hosting expressly states otherwise in writing for that specific product or promotion.

Refunds are available only when:

  • Required by applicable law;
  • Expressly required by a specific written product offer;
  • Expressly approved by Charter Hosting in writing; or
  • Otherwise specifically provided in this Refund Policy.

3. Prepaid Services and Voluntary Cancellation

3.1 Services Are Billed in Advance

Hosting and recurring Services are generally billed and payable in advance for the applicable billing period.

3.2 No Prorated Refunds

If a customer voluntarily cancels a prepaid Service before the end of the applicable billing period, the unused portion of that billing period is non-refundable.

Charter Hosting does not provide prorated refunds or credits for unused prepaid time except where required by applicable law or expressly approved by Charter Hosting in writing.

3.3 End-of-Term Cancellation

Customers may request cancellation at the end of the current paid billing period through the Charter Hosting billing manager control panel where that option is available.

The Service will ordinarily remain active through the end of the paid billing period unless suspended or terminated for another reason.

3.4 Immediate Cancellation

Customers may select immediate cancellation where the billing manager control panel provides that option.

Immediate cancellation does not create a right to a refund for unused prepaid time.

Customers are responsible for backing up and exporting all required data before requesting immediate cancellation.

4. Renewals and Automatic Renewal Charges

4.1 Renewal Charges

Recurring Services may automatically renew until canceled in accordance with the Charter Hosting Terms of Service.

Once a renewal has successfully processed, the renewal payment is non-refundable merely because the customer:

  • Forgot to cancel;
  • Did not use the Service;
  • No longer needs the Service;
  • Did not receive or notice a courtesy reminder;
  • Failed to update billing preferences; or
  • Failed to submit cancellation before the renewal date.

This provision is subject to refund or cancellation rights that cannot legally be waived.

4.2 Renewal Pricing

Services renew at Charter Hosting's then-current applicable renewal price, which may differ from the customer's original, introductory, discounted, or promotional price.

4.3 Renewal Notices

Except for notices required by applicable law, renewal reminders are provided as a courtesy.

Customers remain responsible for tracking renewal dates and maintaining valid billing information.

5. Non-Refundable Products and Services

Subject to applicable law, the following products, fees, and services are non-refundable once ordered, provisioned, registered, licensed, renewed, consumed, or performed:

  • Domain registrations;
  • Domain renewals;
  • Domain transfers;
  • Domain redemption fees;
  • Domain restoration fees;
  • Registrar and registry fees;
  • SSL/TLS certificates;
  • Software licenses;
  • Third-party licenses;
  • Third-party products or services;
  • Dedicated server provisioning;
  • Dedicated server setup fees;
  • Dedicated server service charges once provisioning has begun;
  • Professional services;
  • Website migration services;
  • Malware cleanup;
  • Security remediation;
  • Data recovery;
  • Backup restoration work;
  • IP-address fees;
  • Blacklist delisting or reputation-remediation work;
  • Usage-based charges;
  • Administrative charges;
  • Late fees;
  • Collection costs; and
  • Other work already performed or consumed.

6. Domain Name Refunds

6.1 Domain Registrations

Domain registration fees are non-refundable once the registration request has been submitted to or accepted by the applicable registrar or registry.

A customer's failure to use a registered domain does not make the registration fee refundable.

6.2 Domain Renewals

Domain renewal fees are non-refundable after successful renewal except where required by applicable law or the registrar or registry authorizes reversal.

6.3 Domain Transfers

Domain transfer fees are non-refundable once the transfer process has begun, except where applicable registrar rules or law require otherwise.

6.4 Redemption and Restoration

Redemption, restoration, recovery, registrar, and registry charges associated with expired domains are non-refundable once incurred.

6.5 Failed or Unrecoverable Domains

Charter Hosting does not guarantee recovery of an expired domain.

If a domain cannot be recovered, Charter Hosting will not be responsible for consequential losses associated with the domain, subject to the limitations in the Terms of Service.

7. SSL/TLS Certificate Refunds

SSL/TLS certificate fees are non-refundable once issuance, validation, provisioning, or certificate-authority processing has begun, except where required by law or where the applicable certificate authority expressly permits a refund.

Certificate issuance or renewal may fail because of domain validation, DNS configuration, account configuration, third-party certificate-authority requirements, or other technical conditions.

Such failure does not automatically create a right to a refund.

8. Dedicated Servers

8.1 Provisioning

Dedicated server setup, provisioning fees, and applicable dedicated-server Service charges become non-refundable once provisioning has begun.

8.2 Customer Cancellation

Cancellation after provisioning begins does not create a right to a refund, prorated refund, or account credit for the unused portion of the billing period.

8.3 Third-Party and Hardware Costs

Non-recoverable third-party, hardware, licensing, data-center, or setup costs incurred to provision a dedicated server are non-refundable.

9. VPS, Cloud, and Server Services

VPS, cloud, and server Services are generally non-refundable for unused prepaid time following voluntary cancellation.

Additional licenses, IP addresses, management services, setup fees, or other add-ons may also be non-refundable.

Customer-caused outages, misconfiguration, root-level changes, deleted data, malware, compromised credentials, or software incompatibility do not create a right to a refund.

10. Migration and Data Transfer Services

10.1 Inbound Migrations

Charter Hosting may provide reasonable-efforts migration assistance for customers moving websites or Services into Charter Hosting.

Migration fees are non-refundable once migration work has begun.

Charter Hosting does not guarantee that every file, database, email account, configuration, application, or setting can be successfully transferred.

10.2 No Outbound Migration Service

Charter Hosting does not provide outbound migration services for customers leaving Charter Hosting.

Customers are responsible for exporting and transferring their own data to the new provider.

10.3 Optional Export Assistance

If Charter Hosting agrees to provide optional data-export or packaging assistance, charges for that work are non-refundable once the work has begun.

11. Backups, Restoration, and Data Recovery

11.1 Customer Backup Responsibility

Customers remain 100% responsible for maintaining current, verified, independent backups of their data.

11.2 Backup Restoration

If Charter Hosting agrees to restore data from an available backup, any applicable restoration fee is non-refundable once restoration work begins.

Payment for restoration services does not guarantee a successful restore.

11.3 Data Recovery

Data-recovery fees are non-refundable once recovery work begins.

Payment for data-recovery work does not guarantee that data can be recovered.

11.4 No Refund for Unrecoverable Data

The inability to recover deleted, corrupted, expired, terminated, or otherwise unavailable data does not create a right to a refund for previously provided hosting Services.

12. Malware, Security, and Remediation Services

Charges for malware cleanup, security remediation, forensic review, compromise investigation, blacklist removal, reputation repair, or similar technical services are non-refundable once work begins.

Payment for remediation services does not guarantee that:

  • All malicious files can be recovered or removed;
  • All compromised data can be restored;
  • A website will be fully recoverable;
  • A domain or IP address will be removed from a blacklist;
  • Email reputation will immediately improve; or
  • Future compromise will not occur.

13. Suspension or Termination for Cause

To the maximum extent permitted by law, customers are not entitled to a refund or service credit when Charter Hosting restricts, suspends, or terminates a Service because of:

  • Nonpayment;
  • Fraud;
  • Chargeback abuse;
  • Spam;
  • Phishing;
  • Malware;
  • Prohibited content;
  • Illegal activity;
  • Security threats;
  • Excessive resource usage;
  • Network abuse;
  • DDoS-related risk;
  • Repeated abuse;
  • Violation of the Terms of Service;
  • Violation of the Acceptable Use Policy; or
  • Other material policy violations.

Any unused prepaid portion of the affected Service is non-refundable except where applicable law requires otherwise.

14. Resource Usage and Performance Issues

A customer is not entitled to a refund or credit because Charter Hosting throttles, limits, isolates, restricts, or suspends a Service due to:

  • Excessive CPU usage;
  • Excessive memory usage;
  • Excessive disk I/O;
  • Excessive inode or file usage;
  • Excessive database activity;
  • Excessive cron activity;
  • Excessive email sending;
  • Excessive bandwidth usage;
  • Shared-server instability;
  • Resource abuse; or
  • Violation of reasonable Service limits.

Customers may be required to reduce usage or upgrade to a more appropriate Service.

15. Downtime, Outages, and Service Credits

Charter Hosting does not provide a general uptime guarantee.

Downtime, latency, maintenance, hardware failures, software failures, upstream-provider failures, network interruptions, cyberattacks, DDoS attacks, or other Service interruptions do not automatically create a right to a refund or service credit.

Service credits are available only where a specific written Service Level Agreement expressly provides them.

16. Third-Party Products and Services

Charter Hosting may resell, integrate with, or depend on third-party products and providers.

Examples include:

  • Domain registrars;
  • Domain registries;
  • SSL certificate authorities;
  • Software vendors;
  • Control-panel vendors;
  • Google Workspace;
  • Microsoft services;
  • Security providers;
  • Data centers;
  • Cloud providers;
  • Upstream network providers; and
  • Other third-party services.

Refunds for third-party products are subject to the applicable provider's policies and Charter Hosting's ability to recover the underlying cost.

Charter Hosting is not obligated to refund a third-party charge that Charter Hosting itself cannot recover, except where required by applicable law.

17. Software and License Fees

Software, control-panel, security, plugin, application, or other license fees are non-refundable once the license has been issued, activated, provisioned, or renewed.

A customer's failure to use an activated license does not make the license fee refundable.

18. Chargebacks and Payment Disputes

18.1 Chargebacks Are Not Cancellations

A chargeback, payment reversal, bank dispute, or payment-processor dispute does not constitute cancellation of a Service.

18.2 Service Suspension

If a payment is reversed after Services have been provided, Charter Hosting may suspend or terminate the affected Service until the balance is resolved.

18.3 Fraudulent or Abusive Disputes

Fraudulent or abusive chargebacks may result in account termination and may result in collection or other lawful recovery efforts.

18.4 Legitimate Billing Disputes

Nothing in this Policy limits a customer's right to dispute a genuinely unauthorized, duplicate, or incorrect charge.

19. Late Fees

Overdue invoices may be assessed a late fee equal to fifteen percent (15%) of the outstanding invoice balance beginning seven (7) days after the applicable due date, subject to a minimum late fee of $2.50 and applicable law.

Late fees are non-refundable once properly assessed, except where applicable law requires otherwise.

20. Nonpayment, Suspension, and Termination

20.1 Suspension

A Service is eligible for suspension immediately upon becoming overdue.

20.2 Termination After Fourteen Days

If a Service remains unpaid for fourteen (14) days after its due date, Charter Hosting may terminate the Service.

Termination may permanently delete website files, databases, email, mailboxes, configurations, applications, and other hosted information.

20.3 No Refund Following Nonpayment Termination

Termination resulting from nonpayment does not create a right to a refund for previously paid amounts, unused prepaid time, or deleted data.

20.4 No Guaranteed Restoration

If a terminated customer later pays an outstanding balance, Charter Hosting is not obligated to restore the former Service or recover deleted data.

A new order may be required.

21. Reactivation Following Suspension

Charter Hosting does not currently charge a separate reactivation fee solely for restoring a Service that was suspended for nonpayment and has not yet been terminated.

All outstanding invoice balances, late fees, and other properly assessed charges must be paid before restoration may occur.

Charter Hosting does not guarantee immediate restoration following payment.

22. Promotions, Discounts, Coupons, and Credits

Promotional discounts, coupon codes, and special pricing may be subject to additional eligibility requirements, expiration dates, Service limitations, or renewal conditions.

Promotional credits:

  • Have no cash value unless required by law;
  • Are not redeemable for cash;
  • May expire under the applicable promotion;
  • May be limited to specific Services; and
  • May not be transferable without Charter Hosting's approval.

23. Approved Refunds

23.1 Method of Refund

When Charter Hosting approves a refund, the refund will ordinarily be returned using the original payment method where reasonably possible.

Charter Hosting may use another reasonable refund method if the original method is unavailable or no longer capable of receiving the refund.

23.2 Processing Time

Charter Hosting may process an approved refund within a reasonable period after approval.

Banks, card issuers, payment processors, and other financial institutions may require additional time to post a refund after Charter Hosting submits it.

Charter Hosting does not control third-party financial institution processing times.

23.3 Refund Amount

An approved refund may exclude non-refundable third-party costs, registration fees, setup charges, licenses, usage charges, work already performed, or other amounts properly excluded under this Policy, subject to applicable law.

24. How to Request a Refund Review

A customer who believes a charge qualifies for a refund should contact Charter Hosting support.

Support:
support@charterhosting.com

Refund requests should include sufficient information to identify the applicable:

  • Customer account;
  • Invoice;
  • Service;
  • Payment; and
  • Reason for the request.

Submission of a refund request does not guarantee approval.

25. Rights Required by Law

Nothing in this Refund Policy is intended to eliminate, reduce, or waive any refund, cancellation, automatic-renewal, consumer-protection, or payment rights that applicable law does not permit the customer to waive.

If any provision of this Refund Policy conflicts with a mandatory legal right, the applicable legal requirement will control to the extent of the conflict.

26. Changes to This Refund Policy

Charter Hosting may update this Refund Policy from time to time.

Updated versions will identify a revised "Last Updated" date.

Charter Hosting will provide notice of material changes where required by applicable law.

Continued use of the Services after an updated Policy becomes effective constitutes acceptance to the extent permitted by law.
